Chief Executive Officer

Also known as: “MD” (Managing Director)

The Chief Executive Officer is the most senior and best paid executive in firm. The CEO is the leader, and is therefore generally responsible for the success or failure of the firm. Responsibilities of a CEO are: overseeing all major operations of the firm, to report to the board members and other operational managers, and implement various strategies of the firm. A Chief Executive’s roles can vary between firms, from hands-on tasks to high level, strategic decisions.

The CEO often has a position on the board. He/She can also be the chairman of the board or the President. In general, the CEO is the highest paid individual in the firm, but also carries the heaviest load.
