Employment Insurance

EI (Employment Insurance). Formerly called Unemployment Insurance.  EI is a Canadian Insurance, funded by workers and employees on payroll. The purpose of EI is to temporarily help individuals financially in between jobs after being laid off.  Simply paying EI alone does not mean you will be looked after one you have lost your job.

EI is a little strict. Here are a few points to qualify:   Cannot have quit your job.  Must be actively looking for a new job.  Must have not had work or a salary for a minimum of seven days in a row.  Other types of EI are: EI: Maternity Leave Benefits, EI: Sickness Benefits, EI: Compassionate Care Benefits, EI: Fishing Benefits.  In general EI is considered cheap insurance.  To apply  for EI click here.
